Sneaky Dragon Listening Party Ep. 4

Hello, fellow musical know-it-alls! Welcome to the fourth episode of the Sneaky Dragon Listening Party! And please feel free to pull up a chair, grab a seat on the sofa or plop yourself down in the wicker rocking chair we brought down from upstairs.

  1. Hello Spinoffy Dragons!
Well done on LP #4! It’s always great to hear “new” music with the in-depth background context information that Mr. Dedrick provides. So Interesting! (to quote the aforementioned DAD.) May I offer a couple observations? My guess is that “Sleeping Ute” refers to the indigenous people Mary mentioned–if it had been about a youth in Brooklyn, would it not be spelled “Yout’ “? I’ve heard Dave talk about David M and No Fun so many times, (and I enjoyed his guest appearance on the White Album episode of Compleatly Beatles.) but, I have not heard David M’s music. I wish you had identified the band before playing it. By the time you mentioned it was No Fun, the song was gone from my head. I listen while driving, so I couldn’t really go back and replay. If you don’t mind, I think it would help to identify the song and artist before you play it.
Keep up the fun and interesting show!
    Merry Christmas!
    Danny

    1. Thanks, Danny! I somehow missed your comment! (And don’t ask me how as I’m pretty obsessive about checking on comments.) Your suggestion that we mention the song title and artist before playing the song is well taken. I will institute this change as of Episode 6 (since Episode 5 is already in the can).

  2. Gutted to learn that “Paul is Dead” doesn’t address cranberry sauce, er I buried Paul that is to say Billy Campbell.
No worries. Through “Swimming Pool” No Fun deliver what their name denies.
Good stuff otherwise too save a couple that failed to jazz me.
Enjoyed especially that I went in only familiar with the Maytal and Parker numbers. A few of the other picks I know of but haven’t heard, or at least not the particular cuts you chose.
    So bully.
Being a dyed in the wool member of the ain’t-been-no-good-music-since 1985 club I enjoy being occasionally proven otherwise. That is to say the decades-spanning variety is a swell feature in my book.
    Excited to see what’s next.
    Merry Christmas and all.

  3. Another great episode. I’ve already listened to it twice in this busy pre-Christmas week. Well done, you two. Looking forward to the next episode.

  4. I’m late to your party and I notice that everyone’s gone home. Oh well. My excuse is that I have a long way to travel to get there.
Anyway, I thought I was the only one who knew about The Insect Trust. Good for you (sez he, trying not to be patronising). Also, that Toots track was also in the film and the sound track of “The Harder They Come”, probably the best sound track album of all time (and that includes “A Hard Day’s Night”).

    1. Hi Peter, it’s never too late to join the party!

I came upon The Insect Trust during my three-year Holy Modal Rounders/Michael Hurley/Jeffrey Frederick and the Clamtones obsession via Luke Faust. That’s also how I discovered Karen Dalton!
