Hello, partygoers! Well, as Dave said during this bi-week’s episode, it’s always a little sad when we reach the end of a listener’s mixtape.
This week finish up Dylan O’Connell’s segment of the Sneaky Dragon Mixtape Project with the second side of his second mixtape. Hey, when you’re sending CD-Rs all the way from Australia, make it count!
This episode’s “side” is a little short as Side One got a bit over-full when the disc was being put together. But no matter, the songs are still great, and we threw in a couple of extra ones to make up for it!
We hope you’ll enjoy Dave’s choice of songs:
- The Scenics – “Do the Wait” – In the Summer – Studio Recordings 1977-78, 2009
- Stephen Malkmus and the jicks – “Cold Sun” – Real Emotional Trash, 2008
- The Pretty Things – “Walking Through My Dreams” – Double A-sided single, “Talking About the Good Times” b/w “Walking Through My Dreams, 1968
- The Three O’Clock – “Tomorrow” – Sixteen Tambourines. 1983
- Stereolab – “Strobo-Acceleration” – Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night, 1999
- White Denim – “Bess St” – D, 2011
- No Fun – “These Women Are My Enemy –Snivel, 1984
- Love – “You Set the Scene” – Forever Changes, 1967
And we also played:
- The Pretty Things – “Eagle’s Son” – More of the Electric Banana, 1968
- Terry Callier – “Ordinary Joe” – Occasional Rain, 1972
Thanks for joining us in the rumpus room. Rock on!

“These Women Are My ENEMIES”. My publisher, Oinksdedoinksdoink Music, goes crazy over this kind of thing.
Henceforth, I shall be known as Dylan, Son of Connell. Thank you, Mary. And yes, I was founded by criminals. Also love that this episode began and ended with Mary walking out…
I vote ‘A – good’ for “Ordinary Joe”. Although I think the song itself knows it’s ordinary. “Bess St.” was much better. Objectively.
Thank you for elaborating on the mix-tapes – I have a new appreciation for the tracks you included and why. And even though you didn’t play anything by the Kinks, you talked about them and reminded me that I’ve never explored them. So I went and bought a copy ‘The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society’ today.
As always, I loved the conversation this episode. Standout track – by a mile – was No Fun, which was not only brilliant, but also set things up nicely for December with David M. Thanks guys!
