Longtime listeners might remember how Dave despises the overflowing bathtub movie a.k.a. “The Whole Town’s Talking” (1935). Yet when reminded that Jean Arthur starred in said motion picture, he says enthusiastically and without hesitation, “That’s a good movie.”
Has Dave actually seen this overflowing comedy film or not?
Last episode Dave struggled to come up with the counterpart for the term “definitive article.” I think the difficulty lay in the fact that the grammatical term used to describe “the” is not “definitive article” but “definite article.” The word he was searching for to describe “a” or “an” is “indefinite article.” But I propose that there SHOULD be a term called the “definitive article” and it should be when “the” is pronounced “thee” — as in the sentence, “Some fun things I got this Christmas were a couple of new board games which I’m looking forward to playing someday with THE Dave Dedrick and THE Ian Boothby, the definitive pop culture podcast hosts.”
I’ve had a very tech-based holiday. I was given a new laptop by my office and I’ve never had a laptop before so it’s been a challenge setting it up for both work and home but I figured it out! (I suck at setting this shit up) The MacPro laptop takes the place of two stationary iMacs, one at the office and one at home, so there’s less backing up files to go between the two places, they’re just on my laptop. Two monitors later and I’m able to plug in and work off the same device! Add to this a new iPad and a new iPhone 16 ProMax, so I’ve had even more fun connecting these devices to the laptop network. I’ve needed an upgrade for the iPhone since my version 10 model stopped charging and the iPad was a Black Friday deal for almost half off. My last iPad was a first generation model from 2010 and it died awhile back so it’s pretty much a cutting board now. I’m planning on trying my hand at using Procreate on the new iPad so I also received an Apple Pencil for that. Lots of bits and bytes to chew on as we enter the new year with a new trio of devices.
My Dad paid off an Iron Man figure I had a down payment on at Sideshow Collectibles. This is one of the new figures designed by Honō Studios, I couldn’t pass this one up. Ian, check this guy out and tell me it’s not like a Bob Layton or Gene Colan Iron Man right out of the pages of their comics, I’ll put a link below. There’s also an option of the Silver Age helmet with the pointy face mask! I’m a sucker for that version. They also have a Magneto that’s equally impressive, you’ll see him at the bottom of the page. I look forward to more figures from this studio.

Funny you should mention the long winter days, we’re expecting a snowstorm tomorrow over the next two days and the entire north Texas area is on high alert. Schools have canceled classes and everyone is working from home for the rest of the week. So I guess these long winter days just seem….long! That time a day when it’s dark and you think it’s 9:00 pm and it’s really only 6:30, I feel like the evenings last forever and I actually get more stuff done. My mood isn’t affected by the weather here, we still have plenty of crisp, cool sunny days where I can get outside and get my vitamin D.
Time to get my magic top hat out for the snow this week, Frosty is coming to town!
Stay twitterpated my fellow Sneakers and enjoy your long winter days wherever you are!
