I wasn’t watching for Mariah Carey and she got me…all she wants for Christmas is me. And you’re right Dave, she is delightful. Two songs later on Spotify, Wham! got me. I’m out. Moving on to Bing, Dino, Perry and Frank.
How’s that for a question of the week, what’s your favorite Christmas song? Your least favorite?
Having spent well over half my life in advertising, there’s one commercial that hit me square in the heart. The commercial was for the 2010 AT&T “Rethink Possible” campaign and the spot is titled “Birthday”. When I saw this ad I froze and by the end of it I was in tears. This is the way I saw the world when I was five with all the big paper imaginary characters playing in the real world, no ad has ever targeted me like this. Watch it here:

I already had AT&T, so the ad didn’t sell me anything, but it won my heart forever.
If we want to consider a holiday commercial since it’s the Christmas season, there was this one and it also got me where it counts. It’s “The Forgotten Snowman” ad from Acts of Kindness. I just watched it for the first time in a while and yes, I have something in my eye again. As a kid I was crazy about snowmen and would fantasize about them coming to life like Frosty, so this one really lands it. Sniff.

I took an archery class in college and it was the most fun I had outside shooting a deadly weapon. It didn’t inspire me enough to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on my own archery gear or a Hawkeye or Green Arrow costume but it sure was a blast. I insisted everyone in the class refer to me as Oliver Queen though.
Hey! What Christmas movies are all us Sneakers watching this year? We always spend more time deciding which one to watch than the time we spend actually watching it. It’s what we do while we wrap gifts and cook, maybe “Christmas Vacation” or “Die Hard.”
Get your shopping done and lock your doors Sneakers! The Grinch is coming and his Chuck Jones eyelashes are longer than ever!
An addendum to last week’s chat about Mr. T: Knowing how school kids can be, I thought I knew why a young man might want to change his name from ‘Tureaud’. Turns out he had a deadbeat dad and wanted to sever some emotional ties.
He decided to include ‘Mr’ in his new name as a riposte to the days when his forefathers were insulted by being called ‘boy’. Incidentally, I reckon the slang ‘man’ entered the language through black culture of the early twentieth century, as a positive affirmation of mutual respect.
Delightfully, since changing his name, he is now Mr. ‘Mr. T’. Although I wouldn’t call him that to his face. And it must make paperwork a real pain.
The last time I saw him in anything was when he appeared in Alex Winter’s “Freaked” – as a bearded lady.
So long
Enjoy the looming festilities!
