When I find a stray bill or loonie and I didn’t see it fall out of someone’s pocket, I keep it. But if it were a larger amount, I’d turn in to the police in case it was someone’s rent money or the proceeds of crime. If it’s an important item, I’ll be a good citizen and turn it in. Earlier this year, I found a driver’s license on a sidewalk and dropped it off at a police station. I figured that was the most secure way to get it back to its owner. And if it was not merely lost but STOLEN, the authorities would want this valuable piece of evidence! Once while on a snorkeling excursion off Key West, I spotted a man’s gold wedding band. I dove down for it then showed it to the boat operator. She radioed other tour boats to see if anyone had recently reported losing a ring. No one had, so I kept it. It probably slipped off some hapless husband’s finger while on vacation. “Honey, I swear I WAS wearing it during our guys’ getaway…” Since there’s no inscription apart from a 10K stamp, I can’t tell if someone actually got married with it. Maybe it was a single guy’s decoy ring to prevent a casual fling from getting too serious. “Sorry, babe. I’ll never leave my wife.” Or maybe a spiteful ex tossed it into the sea after breaking up with their spouse. “Take that, you two-timing.. Wait, what have I done? Those 3 grams of 10K gold will be worth $128 Canadian in June of 2024!”
Dave! We had a regular ice cream man in the neighborhood going up, Texas summers made him the most popular man in town. I have to agree with you on the popsicle/ice cream dilemma, I always went for popsicles too. My favorite was the red, white & blue Bomb Pop or the Pink Thing that had the hidden plastic circus animal attached to the holder. Our ice cream man was cool, (pardon the pun), he played KISS from the speaker of his truck.
I found A $50 bill on our wet sidewalk after as storm one day and it was plastered to the cement. I carefully peeled it up and brought it into my Dad. He made me a deal, “We’ll let it dry out and if nobody is seen looking for it or any neighbors fail to ask about, it’s yours in one week. That was the longest week of my young life but I was $50 richer in seven days. This tactic was enforced with my own kids when they found a $20 bill in a Barnes & Noble Bookstore. The employee agreed that if nobody reported it missing, my kids could split the money. A few days later I was driving both my kids back to the bookstore to collect since it wasn’t reported. $10 apiece doesn’t last long with my kids in a bookstore….I think I had to pay some difference in the long run. I’ve always told my kids that if they’re willing to read I’ll buy them any book they want, I’m just glad they found that $20 in a bookstore.
The Marx Brothers Council podcast beat Sneaky Dragon out by a very narrow margin. I remember doing a general search for any Marx Brothers podcast one day and saw the Council guys from the beginning, I think they had just started their run. Then I looked some more not that much later, maybe the same week, and found Full Marx! That was my gateway to Sneaky Dragon and all other podcasts are behind me in the rearview mirror as Sneaky Dragon still takes the lead as the longest and most consistently listened to podcast by my ears. I love you guys for it too, you keep a well maintenance engine running all these years and it’s nothing but awesome.
Thanks for the insight on The Acolyte, I’m really enjoying it on Disney+. I still don’t get all the backlash I’m seeing either. Ever since 2012 when Disney announced there would be NEW Star Wars, there’s been a constant outcry for anything that didn’t overlap of The Skywalker Saga, something completely new. Now that it’s here I still see even more backlash from audiences. I’ll pass on debating any of them and just enjoy the series, the same way I do all Star Wars…with complete passion and unconditional fandom.
Love to you guys and all my fellow Sneakers!!
Thanks for keeping the podcast light on…
