Whenever we get together or have a gathering, someone always makes the Rotel Cheese Dip…(shhhh, it’s not cheese! it’s Velveeta!) Serve it with corn chips like Doritos or Tostitos and everyone is happy. Everyone in our family like pickles and olives but different kinds, so we put out a variety of those too. Susan has been itching to make a Charcuterie Board lately too, we just need some hungry visitors to come over first. Susan got so close to making one for Christmas in 2022 but we both got COVID and had to eat all that salami, ham and cheese ourselves…
Lastly, there another favorite we call Texas Trash. It has different names depending on where you’re from and it’s easy to make, it just takes a long time. Take a huge roasting or lasagna tray and fill it full of all the different Chex Mixes, Cheez-Its, Pretzel sticks, Garlic rye chips and sometimes Cheerios. Pour butter, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco (optional) over the pan as it slowly bakes over a few hours as the sauce saturates the mix! It also freezes well for later in the year!
I’m celebrating my 40th High School Reunion in October, so that’ll be the celebratory highlight this year…also “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”, which opened on the last day of my Senior year! I was about to pass on the reunion because most of my friends were either older or Younger than I was in high school. Then, just two days ago, I received an invite to the combined 1983, 1984 and 1985 reunions! That’s a game changer now I’ll be going with many more of my friends. And get this, the reunion is at Southfork Ranch, where they used to film “Dallas” back in the 70’s and 80’s…yes, it’s still there and it’s both a working ranch and event center with “Dallas” souvenirs and sights. The best thing is it’s only about 20 minutes from my house.
Do you guys have a high school reunion this year?
That’s it for this week!! Need to work on my questions for 650, my single mug is lonely.
Best to all!
Hi Ian and Dave. Here’s something I intend to celebrate in a couple of days: the age-old celebration of Greenpot. No doubt you’ve both been looking forward to it too.
Greenpot is a celebration I invented as a kid and I’ve brought it back in recent years of my adult life. April 29th is the night to watch scary things, but nothing too scary – the childhood scares like Wind in the Willows. Or Tarzan – my goodness, did that trailer terrify four-year-old me when he landed on that branch! I mostly watch those videos on YouTube where people talk about what scared them as a child.
So that’s Greenpot. Yes, strikingly similar to an existing holiday.
And it’s nothing to do with the green pot you smoke – the idea was that various monsters come out of a vegetable pot. I never even pictured the pot itself as green.
Anyway, maybe not the kind of celebration you’re asking about, but a very happy Greenpot to you both.
Oh my gosh! How did you get plunked into comment purgatory twice, Sam!
I’m sorry we missed your Greenpot celebration. It sounds great!
I did go and see Abigail on the 24th as a sort of Greenpot Eve celebration, as it were. So, you’re welcome!
Hehe you haven’t missed it yet!
Regards from South Africa, and keep serving your youthful porpoise, as you say on that side of the world!
