Hola, Sneakers!
Well, Dave threatened it and he did it: a whole bonus episode dedicated to all the music requests made as part of Episode 350’s questions show. And, in order to make it less monotonously Dave-filled, he has dragged his poor daughter Mary away from Call the Midwife to join him out in the Sneaky Dragon auxiliary studio – also known as The Shop. And, yes, this is crazy long and that’s why it’s not at the end of the original Episode 350. Who the heck wants a six-hour long podcast??? Anyway…
Dave and Mary listened to and discussed the following songs:

Spin off! Spin off! Spin off!
Thanks, Dave and Mary. I loved all those interpretations of Beatles’ music. You know a melody is really great when holds up over different genres.
Speaking of adaptations, last weekend I caught the production of “As You Like It” that’s running at Bard On the Beach. The director chucked about an hour’s worth of the text (the duller stuff) and replaced it with 25 Beatles songs. He did a clever job of matching up the songs with the plot points. Eg. when everyone is fleeing to the woods for their lives they sing “Help!” and when Rosalind, disguised as a boy, is pining for Orlando she sings “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away.” It wasn’t the purest Shakespeare or the best Beatles’ cover concert, but the combination made for an entertaining show and they’re playing to sold out audiences.
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the Shakespeare/Beatles mash up at Bard on the Beach, but they really should have stayed on theme and done a Shakespeare/Beach Boys mash up!
Anyway, someone already put Shakespeare and the Beatles together with “mixed” results (geddit?):
It’s Kenneth Grahame. Kenneth GRAHAME! KENNETH GRAHAME!!! Are you ignoring me on purpose?
What a dragon fest we’ve had this week, with the questions show, this extra episode, and I haven’t even got around to Full Marx yet. You’re spoiling us.
And Ian’s right about a Dave and Mary music spinoff. You guys are fantastic together.
Thanks, Chris!
I was just saying to Lezah that I’m really proud of all the work Ian and I did this last week. No one can call us slouches! And pretty good quality too.
It was a lot of fun doing the bonus episode with Mary. She’s the best and a real hoot to boot!
