“Slipper thief kills broomstick owner.”
I enjoyed the Canadian song list. For Newfoundland, your listeners could check out “Rant and Roar” by Great Big Sea. Or the opening number, “Welcome to the Rock” from the musical Come From Away about the diversion of international flights to Gander Airport on 9/11.
I’ve never seen Top Gun either. Or Days of Thunder. Or Cocktail. I like a lot of Cruise’s other movies but I guess the milieus of those three films didn’t appeal to me when they were first released.
Hey Guys! Just wanted to throw this out there- Sloan also sang a song called “The N.S.”- ‘But if you think that it’s cold when you’re swimming in the ocean
It’s hard to believe you’re a Nova Scotian boy’
Also, I’m going to toss my hat in the ring for the ol’ question/answer episode. As a huge fan of the James Bond movies, I always ask myself whether the acting was actually what you would consider “good”- or are we just getting caught up in the nostalgia of the 60’s spy era. I would love to hear your opinions on that, and if there’s time what’s the deal with the amount of dubbing on On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Thanks guys!
The first I heard of Mississauga was as on SCTV in 1983 or so, when Count Floyd mentions is as the 3D offering on the next Monster Chiller Horror Theatre. Naturally, I assumed his stumbling delivery meant it was made up on the spot, and laughed my head off. I’d lived my entire life up to that point in the American Southwest, though, so what did I know?

Serendipitously, I also first learned what the Maritimes were from a different SCTV bit, the film parody of *Going Down the Road* called *Garth and Gord and Fiona and Alice.* This one contains both the original Stompin’ Tom Connors “To It and At It” and a cover version by Paul Flaherty, imitating Blood Sweat & Tears’ David Clayton-Powell. The latter plays as the characters saunter down Yonge St., the spelling of which I wouldn’t know till years later.

Even MORE serendipitously, the same piece ends with “Alberta Bound.”
Oops. Mixing up my hyphenated Claytons. David Clayton-Thomas was the BS&T vocalist, and of course a Canadian, so, apropos.
