Ciao, Sneakers! Welcome to Episode 281 of Sneaky Dragon! This week is all about movies, movies, movies, but before we get to that we have to listen to Ian and Dave relax; then marvel at rock star hi-jinks; discover that Pia is on political cartoon website The Nib (so you should check that out); be surprised that a Simpsons story by Ian is on the web. Also, Ian stumps Dave with a musical reference; they admit it’s a sausage party, but we’re sure you knew that; Ian nit-picks the Bible; Dave is no longer angry at himself; Dave is tempted by Satan; Ian is horrified by Dave’s disgusting sandwich; Dave isn’t into Biblical extrapolation; Ian was conscripted, but Dave’s a volunteer; and, finally, part one of the big movie quiz: Ian and Dave more or less answer the following questions: Most over-rated film; Most under-rated film; film they secretly love; favourite US action film; favourite non-US action film; favourite drama; favourite US horror; favourite non-US horror; favourite comedy; favourite Disney; favourite sc-fi; favourite blaxploitation; favourite US animation; favourite non-US animation; favourite superhero movie; favourite western; favourite film noir; favourite porno; favourite film never released to DVD; favourite musical; favourite concert film; favourite cinematic documentary; favourite film from a female director; and, finally, childhood favourite.
Ian and Dave will continue this list next week and answer such deep questions as: favourite director; most romantic film; and most visually striking film.
Thanks for listening.

Don’t forget about our two ongoing contests:
- Have some dinner with Ian and Dave, and, if you want, watch Sneaky Dragon being recorded. All you have to do is send us a little message that says, “I’d like to eat with you!” and Ian and Dave will treat you to an after-show meal at their favourite White Spot.
- Send us your story of a missed opportunity. Please record a two to three minute story and send it to us via email (sneakyd@sneakydragon.com) or Facebook page. Or Skype Sneaky Dragon and leave a message on our voicemail. David will add a playlist for your story as well.

Nice list!
I want to mention I made this list before I listened to this episode, so any similarities are coincidental.
But I’m glad you also think Fight Club is overrated.
Hey, guys. I’m still listening to the episode, but just heard you talk about “The Thing.” My friend, Sam, wrote a story called “Things With Beards” that talks about life for the characters after the events of the movie. It’s a great story and it’s up for a Nebula award this year. http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/miller_06_16/

Wait, I do have a favourite cinematic documentary. It’s “First Position” (2011) about six ballet students from around the world taking part in an international ballet competition.
About 3/4 through the podcast, but I’ll do mine now while thoughts are fresh.

Movie People Assumed You’d Hate That You Liked: Fun Size
Okay, here goes nothing…
Movie I Think is Over-Rated:
I share Ian’s misgivings about this question, but just for argument’s sake, The Exorcist. In fairness, I’m sure I’d have loved it when it came out and I was a teenager. However, I only got round to it a couple of years ago on DVD and the only scary thing was the Starsky cardigan William Friedkin wore in one of the extra features.
Movie I Think is Under-Rated:
Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Love every second. When the creature from the id appeared towards the end, I let out an audible cheer in the cinema.
Movie I Secretly Love:
Author, Author, with Al Pacino, written by Israel Horovitz, directed by Arthur Hiller. It has the worst theme song of all time and falls apart completely in the third act, but the script is wonderfully witty, and Pacino genuinely funny.
Favourite US Action Movie:
I don’t watch many, but did enjoy Bourne Ultimatum.
Favourite Non-US Action movie:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was good.
Favourite Drama:
Dog Day Afternoon. Pacino’s best performance, John Cazale brilliant, and fantastic script and direction.
Favourite US Horror:
Blair Witch Project.
Favourite Non-US Horror:
Devil’s Backbone, with The Orphanage a close second.
Favourite Comedy:
Way out West – Laurel and Hardy.
Favourite Disney:
Hard to pick, but Bambi has a special place. My sister took me to see it when I was around four or five, and I refused to leave the cinema until the film started playing again and we could see Bambi’s mother alive. She never took me to another movie.
Favourite Sci-Fi:
For all its flaws, it’s Forbidden Planet.
Favourite Blaxploitation:
–
Favourite US animation:
Toy Story
Favourite Non-US Animation:
Spirited Away
Favourite Superhero movie:
Spider-man 2
Favourite Western:
Shane
Fave Film Noir:
The Big Sleep
Fave Porno:
Walkabout. I know, but I was 12…
Fave Film Never Released to dvd:
The Crowd – King Vidor. (And Let it Be, obviously…)
Fave Musical:
Does the original Disney Beauty and the Beast count? If not, I’ll take Hairspray.
Favourite Concert Film:
Stop Making Sense.
Fave Cinematic Documentary:
Anvil – hilarious, yet weirdly moving.
Fave Film from a female director:
Monsoon Wedding, Mira Nair
Childhood Favourite:
The Island at the Top of the World, a hammy escapist fantasy, quite possibly with racist overtones that escaped my attention at the time.
Favourite Franchise:
Toy Story
Favourite Trilogy:
Toy Story
Favourite director:
Charles Laughton. That’s kind of cheating, as Night of the Hunter was his only film, but it’s my all-time favourite. Also, when they’re on form, Coen Brothers are tough to beat.
Fave actress:
Right now, Melissa Leo.
Fave actor:
Spencer Tracy.
Fave Criterion release:
Fave what?
Fave film so far this year:
–
Worst film so far this year:
–
Most recent film seen:
Moonlight
How Was it:
First two parts, great. Last part, overlong and unbelievable.
Most Anticipated upcoming film:
Sneaky Dragon the movie.
Film that always makes me cry:
Night of the Hunter. When the boy John realises no adult is going to help the children. He looks straight into the camera and says, ‘There’s still the river.’ I’m welling up just thinking about it.
Most Romantic Film:
The General.
Best Remake:
True Grit, the Coens’ version, though they were really adapting the novel, rather than remaking the John Wayne film (which isn’t that bad). Second choice: A Fistful of Dollars.
Most Depressing:
Intolerable Cruelty.
Most Times Seen:
Either Scott Pilgrim or The Big Lebowski.
Most Visually striking:
Lord of the Rings
Movie People Assumed You’d Like That You Hated:
The seven-hour cut of Abel Gance’s Napoleon. Some great scenes, but lordy, it’s long. Hate is too strong a word, but I wouldn’t sit through it again.
Movie People Assumed You’d Hate That You Liked:
Mamma Mia.
