HEAT
This week we’re talking about 1995’s Heat and it couldn’t be a more 1995 movie – big stars, big action and even bigger acting.
Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van are back with their memories of a movie that’s more over the top than the 1987 film Over the Top.
There will also be drinks. One of which is the Great A**. Described by one person as starting as an in-your-face Pacino and ending as a smooth DeNiro.
Want to make it? Here’s the recipe…
- 3 oz Empress gin (you can use regular gin but it won’t be as blue)
- 1 oz Fireball cinnamon whiskey
- And enough tonic to fill a highball glass filled with ice
- Mix together, stir and let the regrets begin.
If you make the drink or come up with one of your own, please send a picture by clicking here! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you.

Whoa… just watched Heat a few days ago. Cannot wait to listen.
We saw you watching it, that’s why we did it.
Thomas! The heat is on!
made an error about a Michael Mann film during the podcast, and It’s been bugging me *every day* since the recording. I’m not going to say what it is, juuuuust in case I get away with it. But if someone can find it and reply here, I will offer a humble apology.
I remember it being a big deal at the time that De Niro and Pacino were appearing together in just that one scene — as if a movie screen couldn’t handle so much star power for any longer! I think the way the script was structured cleverly maintained the leading man status of both actors. I liked your “Botched Heist” drink name. “Botched” sounds like it could be a bartending term like “muddled.” So I was inspired to throw a drink together with ingredients I had on hand and call it a “Muddled Takedown” or a “Bloody Shootout.” Photo and recipe to follow.
