Thanks for another season of Horse Mysteries, Lezah and Dave. From seeing Out of Africa and the movie White Mischief, I knew about that English enclave that got up to scandalous hijinks. But I don’t think I’ve heard of Beryl Markham before, despite her achievement of being the first pilot to fly across the Atlantic from east to west. Amelia Earhart seems to be more of a cultural icon, maybe because she was American and because she disappeared in the prime of her life. She shows up several times a year as a question on Jeopardy! and people are still keeping an eye open for the wreckage of her plane. I am the complete opposite of an adventurer and I can’t even imagine the pluck it must’ve taken for a woman to have piloted an airplane back then.
