A shiny, new Sneaky Dragon means some dusty, old video links. Ian has posted these moth-eaten videos on our Sneaky Dragon Facebook page and I feel it’s a service to you, dear website visitor, to post them here. (Of course I can’t resist editorializing.)
First up, we talked about Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower of London. Filmmakers can’t resist destroying it. (The Eiffel Tower is the Big Ben of Paris.)
Here’s Gorgo, destroying London. (Big Ben buys it at the 1:49 mark.)
Poor Big Ben! When my family and I visited London this summer, we made sure to knock it over.
We talked about the Popemobile from Cars 2, but I didn’t realize that there really was a Cars Pope!
I don’t think they made a Volkswagen Rabbi though.
We discussed the annoying presence of fastidious rule-followers on our public roads. These menaces insist on driving the speed limit wherever they go, leaving insanity and furious tears in their wake. Ian has posted this self-righteous Goofy cartoon to goad me.
I’m not sure what the point of this cartoon is – besides, bad drivers are annoying.
Ian suggested a sign advertising Free Beer! would make the highways of BC safer. Also, having this cartoon play on large LCD screens along the way:
It’s a classic, but I don’t know if it would make our roads safer.
Ian went on a twenty minute rant against the CBC. I was able to get a word in edgewise and mention that Lorne Michaels was once told that if he thought he was so great, why wasn’t he working in America. Good question, said Michaels, and promptly left Canada. CBC still celebrates the one that got away in this article. It would be interesting to see some of Michaels work for the CBC, but it probably all got bulk erased.
Ian won an Eisner award for his work on Simpsons Comics! But he wasn’t there to receive it. His friend, the artist Nina Matsumoto was though.
(Psst. Nina, you forgot to thank Ian.) Anyway, good job, everyone! (I’ve never won an award. I do have a bowling trophy I won at pub quiz though.)
This is basically what it’s like to work in show business in Canada.
Artists and performers in Canada don’t dress this well though. (Except Seth – he’s dapper!)
We talked about Picnicface’s show being cancelled. Which show? The one that just won a Canadian Comedy Award. Oh, and here’s a clip from their film that also won one.
How about the trailer?
Picnicface! Crazy name! Crazy comedy!
I say one name wrong and I get mocked, mocked, mocked. Here’s the Searcher’s song about your arm falling asleep, “Pins and Needles”.
(Sigh…) Okay, it was actually called “Needles and Pins”. Bruh-ther.
Okay, we’ll finish up this week’s links post with Ian’s Top Ten films. Starting with:
Number 10:
Not a great trailer, but a great, great film.
Number 9:
So far, a lot of dead.
Number 8:
The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash
Great show, great soundtrack album and the follow-up CD Archaelogy was pretty good too.
Number 7 was basically a split between:
and
Wow, that Spiderman trailer is so good. The Avengers one seemed a little flat.
Number 6:
I like this movie, but it’s no The Incredibles.
Number 5:
A very good film.
Number 4:
The Comedians of Comedy. A little film that didn’t rate a trailer apparently.
Number 3:
Beautiful, wonderful, magical film.
Number 2:
Another beautiful, magical film full of wonderment. How did this bomb?
Drum roll, please!
Number 1:
Ian feels this is practically a perfect film. I quite enjoyed it the one time I saw it – thirty-two years ago.
Thanks for visiting! Ciao!
