This time around why don’t we head out to the woods, leaving all our cares, children and good judgement about not petting bears behind us for 1974’s The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.
Join Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van as they cast judgement on the host who suggested this movie, and get ready to leave with more unanswered questions than a David Lynch marathon.
The hosts enjoy the only beverage the film had in it: spring water. Want to make it? Here’s how:
- Abandon your daughter
- Find a spring
- Wrestle any animals or people you find nearby
- Enjoy the water from the spring
They also had some nuts and berries. If you want some… I don’t know… Climb a tree and befriend a squirrel?
Look, this film was a lot of work to watch. Don’t believe us? Here it is:
They also made up a drink based on the hit film. Wait, really? A hit? How?
Anyway here’s Hair of the Beard that Bit You:
- Steep some green tea – ideally Guyokuro
- Add honey
- Add 1 oz bourbon (or more – whatever it takes to get through this)
- Enjoy!
The producer’s wife said it was like a hot toddy and needed more honey. (This was the fault of the producer.)

This was such an odd choice for this podcast! For ANY podcast! But, wow! You all did it just right! So funny all the way through… I’m going to listen again, just for the fun and laughs!
I remember this movie and the TV show very well. in high school, a friend of mine was in love with Grizzly Adams (probably more in his real he-man looks than actual charisma) and I had a thing for quiet, unassuming but clearly much brighter, Nakoma. We would make up stories of how our lives would be out in the forest with our mountain dwelling men. And, I guess, the bear. ( I don’t know if I’ve ever told this to another living soul, but there you are.)
So, this episode did refresh my memory and brought a whole lot of hearty chuckles! Thank you Jason for recommending it, and to Eric and Vicki for being such great silly sports!
