Happy Valley Racecourse, in the heart of Hong Kong

I’m no statistical genius but it’s predictable that so many governments can’t resist cashing in on the revenue that comes from legalized betting, even ones that consider gambling a social evil. But I was surprised to learn from this episode just how big a deal gambling on horses still is in Hong Kong even after the colony reverted back to Mainland China. I remember placing a couple of bucks on a horse at Hastings Racecourse when someone at our improv group organized an outing to it but it was nowhere near as exciting as they made it look on TV or the movies. Not enough fast-cutting editing in real life, I guess!
