Hola, Sneakers! This week’s episode is a little shorter than usual, but you’ll have to listen until the end to find out why. It’s a real shocker!
Meanwhile, this week: time paradoxes; long flights; Hong Kong; the food of compromise, stomach bugs; Google dread; you don’t need to know that; rural haircuts; playing the food poisoning odds; the topper; not a greenthumbs; is yogurt a culture; chain cake; Chinese phone scams; choice pies; dogs on the planet Earth; virtual gifts; commentary tracks; mutual appreciation; Generation VR; Sherlockiana; praise for Guy Ritchie; praise for Joel Grey; movie stars on TV; Question of the Week – Sneakers respond; Toy Story concerns; and, finally, a surprise twist.
Question of the Week: What the heck can you get a 17 year-old boy for his birthday???
Thanks for listening.

Wow. If you want your stupidity broadcast far and wide, you should start a podcast!
Just after you were talking about Chekhov’s gun too… Hopefully all was quickly forgiven. This week’s abrupt end made me think of another song from my younger days. One of the uncoolest groups ever, but what the hell, I love this, and hope you do too: https://youtu.be/nAN-LvFOGus
LOL
All was forgiven.
Partly my fault as the original return date was Saturday, which I wrote on the calendar, and then it was changed to Friday, which I inadvertently did not correct on the calendar. Usually, that would be discovered when Dave checked flight times, but there were two AC flights #8 coming in on both the Friday and the Saturday at 4:45 pm, so the discrepancy wasn’t picked up.
However, in my defence, I had messaged Dave from Hong Kong to say I was having a hard time checking in the day before my flight, and when he messaged back and said he’d see me in two days I responded LOL, I’ll see you tomorrow (I thought he was joking – silly me). I also messaged him from the airport, to let him know we had arrived there safely and were boarding in 15 minutes – you’d think from that… Oh well.
And to clarify, I was there as the coach for the Canadian team in a dressage and jumper competition (not mounted games – yes, Dave, you got that right – it would be a very unusual combination of activities).
And what to get for a 17-year-old boy? MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!! Or maybe gift certificates to the movies or similar.
A 17 year old girl (if you know what I mean! ????).
I think a 17-year-old might like a gift certificate to an indoor go-karting place or an indoor rock-climbing place.
He used to like rock climbing. Might be a good idea for something to do in the near future. I’ve been enjoying seeing kids try the rock climbing wall at Playland. So much confidence for the first 30 seconds. Then…. nope nope nope.
Tense! You said you’d got a text ‘this morning’ that Lezah was boarding, and then you said a 13-hour flight. The whole podcast I’m thinking ‘doesn’t that mean the flight gets in about now?’ Glad all was forgiven!
Don’t know about 17 year old boys, but we got a killer present for our nephew when he was about 12. I found a ‘secret farter’ at a gadget store – a box you hide somewhere with a remote control to make the box produce about 10 different fart sounds. He unwrapped the box, said ‘huh’, showed it to his parents and then left the unopened box on a bench for the rest of the day. Not a hit. I had guys 3 times his age tell me they would love that present now, let alone when they were 12. Unfortunately, no matter what we get this kid it’s never right (we get told when he sells his gift card to his sister, or if the gift gets taken back to the store “to get something he wants”) so we’ve given up. He gets money now. And not much, either.
Does the name of the podcast originate from the urban dictionary definition of “sneaky dragon?” https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sneaky+dragon
“When you cum in a girls mouth and make her laugh or she sneezes and the cum comes out of her nose”
Hi Brian! Thanks for writing!
Three things:
1) Ew.
2) It doesn’t seem possible. (Also, it’s not very flattering that a girl would laugh after you’ve cum in her mouth. Why would you give that a name?)
3) No, the name actually came from a drawing I’d done in my sketchbook. I had the misfortune of looking up Sneaky Dragon on the internet after we’d done the first episode. Who would have thought?
I talk about it here in a post about the good ol’ title card project where you can see the original sketchbook drawing that started it all!
About Sherlock Holmes – I was rewatching “They Might Be Giants” the other night and was suddenly struck with a shredded parallel to “Silence of the Lambs” – could Hannibal Lecter be a Holmes to Clarice Starling’s Watson? Has this ever been noted before?
On to episode CD!
