Ola, Sneakers! This week on the Dragon – that’s right, “The Dragon”. That’s the name the focus groups have all said they like the best. One hundred grand well spent!
Anyway, this week on the show Ian and Dave discover that Sneaky Dragon is for young lovers; that they missed out on the Poddies – the imaginary podcast awards; that Hugh Grant is not aging very well, but Dave like The Rewrite, a film starring Hugh Grant; and that there is not much to say about castratti.
Also discussed: Ian has a theory why video games don’t work as movie adaptations – and we can maybe throw some comic book movies in there as well; speaking of Hugh Grant, they wonder why more actors don’t use CGI to soften the aging process; Dave makes things awkward – more awkward than usual; Ian asks Dave what he thinks of something he has never seen: comic book covers featuring fans in cosplay costumes posing as the title characters; and, finally, Ian wins…finally.

Great theory from Ian on why video game movies don’t work.
But I still King of Kong: a fistful of quarters counts as video game movie and is amazing.
Did anyone else enjoy Edge of Tomorrow (Live Die Repeat)? Tom Cruise lives the same day again and again, gets better at fighting (gets XP, levels up), gets killed by bosses, learns how to beat them. It’s a bit like a movie that feels like playing a game the way Ian described it.
That’s a really good point. I considered it a comic book movie since it was based on a manga but it does capture the feel of a video game.
Re: the cosplay covers, I read about how it came to be. One of the cosplayers pitched the idea to Marvel, they approved, and she got a bunch of her friends onto the covers (many people in the cosplay community were not happy about this because they felt better cosplayers got overlooked). She also hosts the reality series “Heroes of Cosplay” and released cosplayer trading cards.
Okay, that’s interesting. I didn’t like the Heroes of Cosplay series, thought is was too nasty and I’m glad some of the more homemade costumes made the cut for the covers. I like the idea that you don’t need to break the bank or have a perfect body to cosplay.

The problem with being back in school is that I’m constantly behind in my listening schedule. Similarly, you might have to say my name ten or twelve times due to senior year painting homework. Also Also, I binge-listened to catch up all the back episodes of Hello, From the Magic Tavern. Anybody who likes (good) improv-based comedy should check it out. Those guys are building the most ridiculous and twisted fantasy world and it’s well worth a few episode’s tryout.
The Cerebus novel Dave was thinking of is Going Home. Gerhard’s scenic photos comprised all (or just about all?) of the 30-something covers, which began to really cheese off those of us who looked forward to the traditional gloriously-rendered and -colored character ones. Hapless Ham Earnestway was depicted as basically having the essence gradually sucked out of him by controlling, pseudo-vampiric wife, Mary. A hard slog.
