Ah, the Guy Earle affair…. (huge dramatic sigh). The entire issue is over 6 years old, now. Just to sort the facts, because the papers have goofed from time to time: The initial incident happened in May of 2007, the case proceeded to a hearing at the Human Rights Tribunal in March of 2010, the tribunal found in favour of the complainant and that decision was taken to the BC Supreme Court for judicial review (appeal) in July of 2012 with their decision upholding the tribunal’s ruling, coming down in June of this year. The next step, logically, is an appeal to the BC Court of Appeal. Yes, you can still say what you want but there is now a legal “umbrella” (Dave’s term) that permits the government to step into the content of the performing arts. Great show! Man of Steel sucked.
Thanks for clarifying, Bill. It is an icky topic, but I still find it interesting and was curious what Ian thought about it. Now that I see my term “umbrella” in a different context, I realize what a terrible metaphor it is! Ha ha! 🙂
And, yes, Man of Steel sucked…hard.
